Indonesia has a range of problems in the electoral process. Such as fraud in the vote count, incomplete ballot papers and counting that runs pretty slow. Follow up on these problems, a new breakthrough present to relieve the election process. Which is by applying the use of technology and information to make the election process more efficient. We call it ‘online voting system’. There are four reasons why online voting system is better to be implemented in general election. Firstly, the data in online system is more secure. The Online voting system affords increased levels of election security compared with paper ballots in the conventional voting system (Arthur, 2014:2). According to Australian Election (2014:17), “…secret password or personal ID number might be applied...” Besides, the voters also unable to vote on more than one as a preventive measure against attempted multiple voting. Secondly, the accessibility is enhanced for voters. Society can vote in everywhere, it could be from their home, office, university or even in the café which have internet access. Online voting system also increase opportunities for voters who have physical disability, get illness, or might be “…visiting overseas in purpose of work or study…” (Chopra, 2014:5). The voter only need to open the web of election; runs voter application; identify himself/herself by entering ID number, choosing the candidates of the voter’s electoral on the display; and receive the notice that the vote has been accepted(Valimiskomisjon, 2014:7). Thirdly, the result of tabulation is come up rapidly. Online voting system also can deliver a faster official ballots tabulation process. “As soon as standard internal checking processes are complete, the results are available to client.” Australian Election (2014:19). It is also more accurate compare with the conventional system that is sometimes criticized on human error. Fourthly, online voting system is cheaper to operate and execute. (15)In conventional voting system, there are obviously significant cost involved for printing the ballot papers, require setting and staffing polls, and ect.(Canadian government, 2014:7) .(16)On the other hand, with on line voting system, once the relevant web screens have been developed, essentially there is little other cost. In brief, we know that on line voting system is more secure, accessible, rapid, and cost saving in term of election process.
